Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan has acquired a plot in The Sarayu, a 7-star enclave in Ayodhya, from Mumbai’s developer, The House of Abhinandan Lodha (HoABL). The land, measuring approximately 10,000 square feet, is valued at 14.5 crores, as per real estate industry insiders. HoABL declined to comment on the deal’s size and value, citing client confidentiality.

The Sarayu, covering 51 acres, will be officially unveiled on January 22. This coincides with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dedication of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya.

It takes four hours to get to the actor’s birthplace of Allahabad (now Prayagraj) from Ayodhya via National Highway 330.The chairman of HoABL, Abhinandan Lodha, labeled it a “milestone moment” and expressed excitement in welcoming Bachchan as the “first citizen” of The Sarayu. The Sarayu is approximately 15 minutes from the Ram Temple and 30 minutes from the Ayodhya international airport. Lodha stated that Bachchan’s investment in the Ayodhya project reflects confidence in the city’s economic potential and appreciation for its spiritual heritage. According to Lodha, the project would become a “symbol of Ayodhya’s global spiritual significance” due to Bachchan’s affiliation.

Amitabh Bachchan invested in the planned enclave development, incorporating a five-star palace hotel in collaboration with Leela Palaces, Hotels, and Resorts. The Leela Palaces, Hotels, and Resorts company are owned by the Brookfield group, aiming to complete the project by March 2028.

In 2019, the Supreme Court granted Hindus ownership of the site that once housed the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya. Since then, Ayodhya has witnessed significant infrastructure development, transforming the city and its surroundings. The development has led to a notable surge in land values within Ayodhya and its outskirts, particularly towards Lucknow and Gorakhpur.

According to an evaluation conducted in October 2023 by Anuj Puri, head of Anarock Group, the city’s real estate market saw a about 25%–30% increase in price right after the decision. The average cost of land outside of Ayodhya has increased to anywhere between.

HoABL, which was established in 2021, is known for introducing transparency into the land purchase process and for making it feasible to purchase land anywhere in the globe via the use of technology. According to Lodha, who is the younger son of Maharashtra’s tourism minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha, “we had customers from 19 countries for our last project.” Additionally, HoABL wants to invest a total of to build four more luxury hotels in Benares, Vrindavan, Shimla, and Amritsar.
