The Kansas City Chiefs were defeated 20-14 by the Las Vegas Raiders on Monday afternoon at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, their sixth loss of the season.
The game’s turning moment came midway through the second quarter, when the Raiders recovered a fumble deep in Chiefs territory and returned it for an 8-yard score. Then, on Kansas City’s next offensive possession, cornerback Jack Jones intercepted quarterback Patrick Mahomes and returned it for a 33-yard touchdown.

The two plays, which occurred in just seven seconds of game action, turned a four-point deficit into a 10-point advantage for Las Vegas in the blink of an eye, and it’s a hole that the Chiefs never recovered from.

“They played a better game than we did today,” remarked Andy Reid, Head Coach. “We must ensure that we learn from what happened and move forward.” That is what you do, and that is where we are today.”

Taylor Swift spent Christmas Day in Kansas City cheering on her boyfriend, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, when the Kansas City Chiefs faced the Las Vegas Raiders at Arrowhead Stadium.

She was observed riding a golf cart with someone dressed as Santa before the game.

“Santa arrived with a very special guest,” the NFL said on Twitter.

Swift was wearing a Santa hat with Kelce’s number 87 on the trim as she watched the game from a suite. Before the game, Kelce wore a Santa hat.

Mahomes finished the game 27-of-44 for 235 yards and a score, guiding Kansas City on a 10-play, 74-yard scoring drive halfway through the second quarter that temporarily put the Chiefs ahead. Tailback Isiah Pacheco scored on a 12-yard run after taking the direct snap and running around the edge.

The Raiders’ two defensive touchdowns came shortly after, giving Las Vegas a lead it would never surrender. The Raiders added a field goal late in the third quarter, and while the Chiefs marched into the red zone twice in the fourth quarter, one of those drives ending with a 7-yard hookup between Mahomes and wide receiver Justin Watson, Kansas City was unable to reclaim the lead.

Watson’s touchdown gave the Chiefs a shot, bringing them within six points with less than three minutes remaining, but Las Vegas broke off a couple of big runs on the subsequent drive, allowing the Raiders to run out the clock.

The Kansas City Chiefs seemed poised to reclaim the AFC West crown this season, but their division opponents dug themselves deeper and deeper.

The Raiders (7-8) and Broncos (7-8) have a mathematical shot of catching the Chiefs (9-6) after Las Vegas’ 20-14 win at Arrowhead on Christmas Day, but a lot would have to fall into place for one of them to dethrone K.C.

The division has been dominated by the reigning but wobbling Super Bowl winners since 2016, when Patrick Mahomes was still throwing it in Lubbock, Texas, and few Swifties knew who Travis Kelce was unless they were also fans of the star tight end’s reality dating program “Catching Kelce.”

Several fans displayed placards mentioning Swift and Kelce at Monday’s game. “I’m dreaming of a Chiefs Christmas (Taylor’s Version),” one fan said, alluding to Swift’s quest to re-record her first six albums. Another supporter held a placard that said, “I am here for Taylor Swift.”

Brittany and Sterling Skye Mahomes, the wife and daughter of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, as well as Iowa basketball standout Caitlin Clark, were also in attendance. Clark, the Collegiate Women’s Athlete of the Year, exchanged jerseys with Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice.

The Raiders won 20-14 over the Chiefs.

Other celebs who have attended Chiefs games this season include Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, and Hugh Jackman.

Kelce originally spoke out about Swift on an episode of his “New Heights” podcast in late September. The Chiefs player claimed he’s been on a “rollercoaster of life” since Swift’s initial visit at one of his games.

Swift has attended multiple Chiefs games this season, both at Arrowhead Stadium and on the road. In September, the singer attended her first Chiefs game.

Jason Kelce, the Eagles’ center, is also scheduled to play on Monday. At 4:30 p.m. ET, the Eagles will face the Giants.
